Big sporting event= presumed nationalism and pride

Thought for the day- imagine a competitor in the Olympics, World Cup, Wimbledon etc…being asked ‘So you must be very proud to be representing Team GB (pick country) at this prestigious event?’ and replying ‘Well actually I’m not particularly patriotic. I tend to see my country of origin more as a geographical accident than anything else, and frankly I have a huge problem with some of the things done in my country’s name, such as illegal invasions of countries in the Middle East for reasons other than the usual ones stated (fighting for their freedom and democracy etc…etc…), and have an equally large problem with my taxes being used for these nefarious actions and me having little or no choice over this’.

Would their life even be worth living afterwards?
